OUR STORY

As Rona and Einar began doing CrossFit in 2009, they experienced and noticed a high incidence of injuries among themselves and their peers. In 2016 they envisioned a unique fitness approach geared at avoiding injury through practice, proper form, and personal encouragement. Hence, giving birth to the concept of IKAIKA (EE-Kai-Ka).

 

By blending functional movement, yoga, and high intensity training, IKAIKA seeks to provide a DIFFERENT approach to fitness; supporting the development of physical and mental strength, while minimizing the risk of injury.

 

Rona’s Hawaiian culture of Aloha (kindness, harmony, and humility) and Ohana (family), along with Einar’s determination and interest in a sustainable fitness routine, are at the heart of IKAIKA’s goal:

 

To open a fitness studio providing  challenging group classes  and private coaching  sessions aimed at injury prevention, to change your body, and ultimately your life.

WHAT DOES IKAIKA MEAN?

IKAIKA (EE-Kai-Ka) means STRENGTH in Hawaiian and it is used in the context of the warrior society called MAKINI.

These warriors wore the IKAIKA Warrior Helmet or MAKAKI’I, made from gourds (such as coconut) and feathers. As a Hawaiian tradition, small replicas of these helmets are often hung for protection and STRENGTH.
